Nestled on the northeastern coast of Mahé Island, Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, is not just the country’s political and economic hub but also the center of its healthcare system. As the smallest capital in Africa, Victoria is home to around 26,000 residents, yet it plays a crucial role in providing medical services to both locals and the thriving tourist population.
With a blend of public and private healthcare facilities, the city offers a range of medical services, from primary care to specialized treatments. The Seychelles Hospital, the nation’s largest medical facility, stands at the forefront of public healthcare, while private clinics and diagnostic centers contribute to accessible and quality health services. However, like many island nations, Seychelles faces challenges in specialized medical care, workforce shortages, and reliance on overseas treatment for complex conditions.
This blog explores the healthcare landscape in Victoria, highlighting its strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth in ensuring quality medical care for its people.
