Healthcare Challenges
Man power
The Directorate of Hospital & Medical Education has been functioning with inadequate man power since its inception 2006. The Hospital services being a labour intensive zone, are till date not able to cope with the requirement of manpower as asked by the minimum requirement of the Indian Public Health Standard Norms (IPHS). Patients have also been facing difficulties in proper utilization of facilities due to absence of man power or absence of accessibility.
Renovation/Construction of Buildings
The existing Hospital buildings and staff quarters are very old, dilapidated and congested to accommodate the increasing no. of patients. Reconstruction of Hospital buildings and quarters are very much essential now, so as to provide good health care to the people. Hence, the state is now in a dire need of resources and funds to strengthen its infrastructure.
Telemedicine at District Hospitals
In a state like Mizoram, that finds its location in the farthest and the most remote location of the country, accessibility of resources will always pose a threat to its healthcare status. To combat this challenge, the only and most effective way is to adapt with the virtues of telemedicine.
Telemedicine is a real need for patients who cannot get clinical consultation and decision making privileges due to unavailability of doctors, lack of communication infrastructure or inability to travel. To improve the health care facilities in the state, telemedicine is considered absolutely necessary to be instilled at the District Hospitals so that the development gap hindering the quality treatment for patients in Medical & Health Sector can be abolished.
Lack of Trained Medical Staff
There are very few specialists available in the state which makes it difficult to obtain tertiary care, though the CHCs. This in turn forces the under-qualified professional to perform operations which are beyond their credentials. The CHCs are run by MBBS doctors who have received some additional training. And despite all this , the state yet lacks the availability of good colleges to foster the manpower in its healthcare sector.
